Welcome to williecagerfoundation.org, the official website for the Willie Cager Charitable Foundation.

Remember; together we can make a difference!

We are a non-profit organization with one specific goal: to provide basic tutorial programs on a year round basis to low income, educationally "high risk," disabled, and other needful youngsters in the El Paso area.  While the Foundation recognizes that there may be other agencies attempting to focus on these problems, its direction is different; to combine academics with athletics.

The Willie Cager Charitable Foundation has been organizing fundraisers for basketball camps and sponsoring golf tournaments over the past years.  As Athletic Director for Ysleta Independent School District since 1989, Willie's focus has always been on the kids.

To completely understand the purpose of the Willie Cager Charitable Foundation, we must first look at the life and dreams of Willie Cager:

"I was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, to a low income family. My burning desire to become something more, along with the help of an athletic scholarship, afforded me an opportunity to leave the Bronx and attend Texas Western College (known today as the University of Texas at El Paso)."

"Along with being a member of the 1966 NCAA basketball championship team, I earned my college degree in 1969. I'm working on the next part of my dream: to provide a way out of the dismal future facing young people caught in the low income, low education scenario."

There are no scheduled events at this time.  Please check back soon!

TUTORIALS - A year-round tutoring program will be offered to all students in grades five through twelve. College students will act as mentors, assisting students in such sports as basketball, football, bowling, and golf on a one-on-one and a team basis. The mentors must have athletic and academic qualifications to show that the two are compatible.

SCHOLARSHIPS - College and vocational school scholarships and grants will be actively sought and awarded to the program participants.

SUMMER CAMPS - Three summer camps of three weeks each will be offered, with the Foundation providing a comprehensive program that will co-exist with regular activities already in place.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS - Special sports tournaments, such as the International Basketball Congress for area high school seniors will be coordinated and implemented. The Foundation also envisions combining with the Special Olympics organizations for various events.
